As Christians, we are called to seek God’s guidance and trust in His divine plan for our lives. While astrology promises insight through the stars, the Bible repeatedly warns us against turning to created things for wisdom. Instead, we are to rely on God’s Word and the Holy Spirit for truth and direction. Below are seven themes exploring what the Bible says about astrology and divination.

God Alone Knows the Future
The Bible teaches that only God has perfect knowledge of the future. Astrology claims to predict destiny through the stars, but Scripture clearly warns us to seek answers from the Lord alone. Trusting in astrology undermines our faith in God’s sovereignty.
Isaiah 46:10
“Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
Daniel 2:27-28
“Daniel replied, “There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king’s secret. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets…””
Matthew 24:36
“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.”
Ecclesiastes 8:7
“Indeed, how can people avoid what they don’t know is going to happen?”
Astrology Is a Form of Divination
Divination is the practice of seeking knowledge by supernatural means other than from God. The Bible explicitly condemns all forms of divination, including astrology. These practices open the door to deception and spiritual bondage.
Deuteronomy 18:10-12
“Do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft… Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.”
Leviticus 19:26
“Do not practice fortune-telling or witchcraft.”
2 Kings 21:6
“Manasseh also practiced sorcery, divination, and witchcraft, and he consulted with mediums and psychics. He did much that was evil in the Lord’s sight, arousing his anger.”
Acts 16:16-18
“A slave girl had a spirit that enabled her to tell the future… Paul turned and said to the demon within her, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.””
Micah 5:12
“I will put an end to all witchcraft, and there will be no more fortune-tellers.”
The Heavens Declare God’s Glory, Not Our Destiny
While the stars and planets testify to God’s greatness and creativity, they are not tools to predict human fate. The heavens reflect His glory—not a guide for human decisions or character. We worship the Creator, not the creation.
Psalm 19:1
“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.”
Romans 1:25
“They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself.”
Genesis 1:14
“Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years.””
Jeremiah 10:2
“This is what the Lord says: “Do not act like the other nations, who try to read their future in the stars.””
Isaiah 40:26
“Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name.”
Seeking Wisdom from God, Not the Stars
God is the source of all true wisdom and knowledge. When we turn to astrology, we substitute God’s Word with worldly philosophies. The Lord invites us to seek Him directly and promises to grant us wisdom generously.
James 1:5
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
Proverbs 2:6
“For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Colossians 2:8
“Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world.”
Isaiah 8:19
“Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the dead.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance?”
1 Corinthians 3:19
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.””

God Commands Us to Avoid Pagan Practices
Astrology often stems from pagan beliefs and systems that conflict with God’s truth. As His people, we are called to be holy and set apart. God repeatedly instructs us not to follow the customs of those who reject Him.
Deuteronomy 4:19
“And when you look up into the sky and see the sun, moon, and stars… do not be seduced into worshiping them. The Lord your God gave them to all the peoples of the earth.”
2 Kings 17:16
“They worshiped the stars, despite the Lord’s clear command not to do so.”
Jeremiah 8:2
“They will be spread out before the sun, moon, and stars—the gods my people have loved, served, and worshiped.”
Romans 12:2
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”
1 Peter 1:14-16
“So you must live as God’s obedient children… Now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”
Astrology Cannot Save Us
Astrology may appear insightful, but it cannot offer salvation, peace, or reconciliation with God. Only Jesus Christ can save us from sin and give us true life. Trusting in anything other than Christ is spiritual danger.
Acts 4:12
“There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
John 14:6
“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.””
Isaiah 47:13-14
“Let your astrologers stand up and save you… But they are like straw burning in the fire—they cannot save themselves from the flame.”
Galatians 4:8-9
“Before you Gentiles knew God, you were slaves to so-called gods… Why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more?”
Jeremiah 17:5
“This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.””
Put Your Trust in God Alone
God calls His people to trust in Him wholeheartedly. He is our refuge, our guide, and the One who holds our future. Turning to astrology undermines the faith God desires us to place in Him alone. The Scriptures urge us to forsake all substitutes and trust fully in the Lord.
Psalm 37:5
“Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.”
Proverbs 16:3
“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.”
Isaiah 26:3-4
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you… Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.”
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Psalm 115:11
“All you who fear the Lord, trust the Lord! He is your helper and your shield.”
